The Birth:
In the finnish winter, anno domini 2009, the three courtjesters to the unknown kings of nothing got an idea to start up a band. All three were more or less social outcasts in modern way of consumerism and their views of the world were closer than they had ever thought. One evening in march, these three men went and tried it out. They all had experience on playing in most different styles of music. Somehow the pieces just clicked. Three piece line-up was all they needed.
The First 2 Quarters:
After rehearsing and rehearsing, more and more songs became to see the light. Just after playing for less than two months, these men recorded their first rehersal tape with one mic on. After listening to it, the first songs started to gain their final shape.
After a month or so, the band got their long-time friend, Kenneth to record them live in studio. It took one afternoon. The setup, then they recorded all the instruments on few takes. Then the vocals. They mixed the tape next week and it took three hours to finnish.
This tape was originally supposed to be released as homespun 6-track cdr, but someone ordered empty discs to his old address, so the discs got to their destination so late, that the band decided to wait until they have more songs to put on those empty discs. Other reason for putting release off, was that the band couldn’t confirm their name.
First gig took place in wedding of Saana & Jani, the friends, professional and casual. Their wedding was great party altogether. But cursed reality of modern working class had ro raise it’s head before this gig could be done. Miro’s car broke down on the day of the party, just before they were supposed to pick up the gear from their rehearsal studio. Then they took Jussi’s car. Which had real difficulties with idling. Besides, the exhaust pipe broke from the beginning of the pipe after they got their gear in the car. After that, they took Antti’s mother’s car. It took only 3 cars and 5 hours to get 170 kilometers to their first gig. The name was again an issue on the first gig. Guys just decided to go on with “The Lenients” for just this one gig.
Second was easier. Though not without any problems. It was beautiful late summer day in Naantali. First public performance took place in Onnenpyörä day-fest. The Onnenpyörä day-fest is about 10 years old and prestigious event. The band would still like to thank everyone who came to see the shows and also everyone of those who made the event happen. After this gig band just let go of the name conflict. The final name was “The Lenients”. End of Story. Not the whole story.. Just about the name.
After more and more rehearsing, the band is waiting for recording of another session. From that session there’ll will hopefully be more than just few tracks laying around the internet…
